Perfect Gas Law Apparatus TH-3114

The Perfect Gas Law Apparatus TH-3114 is a small-scale bench-top unit designed for experimental investigation of the first law of thermodynamics using the perfect gas law and expansion of air. The unit consists of two vessels connected by a large-bore pipe and valve, together with an integral air pump.

Key Features

  • Small-scale bench-top apparatus for experimental investigation of the first law of thermodynamics.
  • Two vessels connected by a large-bore pipe and valve.
  • Integral air pump for pressurizing one vessel and evacuating the other.
  • Additional valves allow the vessels to operate in isolation, vent to or from atmosphere, or operate in a combined arrangement.
  • Fast Response thermocouple sensors located in each vessel record air temperatures.
  • Individual pressure transducers record chamber pressures.
  • Impact-resistant plastic vessels and interconnecting pipe work.
  • Pressure switches limit operating pressures to safe levels.
  • Control Box digitally displays the air temperatures in the vessels.
  • Pressure Relief valves to avoid over-pressurization in the pressurized vessel.
  • Air pump, Manual or Computer controlled (optional).
  • Optional computer (PC) monitoring of pressure and temperature changes continuously.

Educational Objectives

The apparatus provides experimental investigation of the first law of thermodynamics using the perfect gas law and the expansion of air. It also allows observation of the Pressure, Volume, Temperature Relationship for Air and transient responses to different rates of change in a process.
